When Dumont became a borough in the year 1894, it retained the name Schraalenburgh, while the neighboring towns changed their names.

After a while, the borough ceded strips of land to the neighboring townships of Harington and Palisades. The name was changed to Dumont in 1898 after Dumont Clark. Clark was the borough’s first mayor.

The main historical landmarks in Dumont include The Old North Reformed Church and Camp Merritt. The borough celebrates more than 120 years and has since grown into a stable and thriving community.
